Leopard was my first animal painting. With only one large paintbrush and no fine-point brushes, I turned to everyday objects to create the details: a thumbtack for fine lines, a comb pick for fur textures, a toothbrush for areas of the body, and a safety pin for much of the work around the eyes.
Because I have difficulty seeing color, I researched a leopard’s coloring to guide my choices. Creating this piece meant finding a way forward with the tools and vision I had. To me, the leopard represents resilience–the main quality it took to paint it.
